What does my school need to use Tinusaur in class?

This is one of the most common questions we get from schools and teachers. The good news is that getting started with Tinusaur is simple. To make it easier, we divide the answer into five parts.

1. What do students need?

Tinusaur Starter Kit

Each student needs a personal Tinusaur Starter kit and the willingness to learn by doing.

For students aged 10 to 13, the most suitable choice is the Tinusaur Kids.Micro as it is simpler and easier to assemble, program, and work with.

For students aged 14 to 19, and even older, the most suitable choice is the Tinusaur Starter EDU as it is a bit more complex and has more advanced features.

Lessons

A good educational kit is more than just hardware – it also needs lessons. Every Tinusaur Starter Kit comes with a bundle of student learning materials, adapted for the appropriate age and level. Students can access the written lessons by scanning the QR code on the license card included in their Tinusaur Starter Kit.

The materials are designed for students and can be used both during classroom activities and at home for self-study. This allows learners to review the lessons, continue experimenting, and build their skills at their own pace.

Additions

For students who want to go further, Tinusaur offers Additions – small add-on boards that extend the functionality of the Tinusaur Starter Kit.

Many students quickly move beyond the basic classroom activities and want to build more advanced projects. For those who excel or show deeper interest, the Tinusaur Additions provide extra sensors, components, and modules that can be connected to the Tinusaur Starter Kit. This allows students to experiment with new ideas, solve more complex problems, and create even more interesting STEM projects.

2. What do teachers need?

Teachers should be prepared in advance so they can guide practical work effectively, keep classroom activities organized and safe, and help students connect each task to the underlying STEM concepts.

They do not need to be professional electronics engineers or advanced programmers, because Tinusaur provides structured teaching materials, clear examples, and step-by-step activities that support the learning process.

Tinusaur provides teacher training that prepares educators to organize classroom activities, guide students through practical work, and deliver lessons successfully using the Tinusaur platform.

💰 Depending on the number of kits a school purchases, Tinusaur teacher training may be provided free of charge or offered at an affordable price, making it easier for schools to properly prepare their educators before the course begins.

3. What does the classroom need?

To use Tinusaur in class, the classroom should first be equipped with a Tinusaur Lab set – a toolcase with soldering irons and the basic tools and supplies needed for assembling and working with the kits.

Tinusaur Lab x8+

Price range: $358.00 through $574.00

The Tinusaur Lab is a set of tools, materials, and other classroom supplies needed to assemble and work with the Tinusaur kits.

Each student should also have access to a computer running Microsoft Windows and an available USB port to connect the programmer. Each workstation should have access to power outlets for both the computer and the soldering equipment.

Computers and power outlets should be provided by the school.

A special electronics laboratory is not needed. Tinusaur is designed so schools can start in a regular classroom, without a special setup, making practical STEM activities easier to introduce and more accessible to everyone.

4. What happens next?

After students complete the basic activities, which may take one or two school semesters, the class can move on to Level-2.

Level-2 builds on the knowledge and skills from the first level. Students assemble and work with more advanced Tinusaur kits, such as Tinusaur Starter NXT and Tinusaur Kids.Mini, and continue learning through more complex practical activities.

For students aged 11 to 14, the most suitable choice is the Tinusaur Kids.Mini, as it is simpler and easier to assemble, program, and work with.

For students aged 15 to 20, and even older, the most suitable choice is the Tinusaur Starter NXT, as it is a bit more complex and has more advanced features.

At this stage, students work with new input-output and control devices, including servo motors, mechanical systems, magnetic sensors, and connections between two or more Tinusaur boards. They also begin working on more advanced individual and team projects, deepening their understanding of programming, electronics, mathematics, physics, and other STEM concepts.

Additions

For this level, Tinusaur also provides Additions, similar to Level-1. These small add-on boards and modules extend the functionality of the Level-2 kits, allowing students to experiment further, explore new concepts, and build more advanced individual or team projects.

The Addition Shield LEDx12-C is a board with 12 LEDs arranged in a circle and a buzzer at the center to produce sounds.

This next step helps students continue learning beyond the basics and gradually move toward more advanced project-based work.

5. One level up and beyond

After Level-2, students can move on to Level-3, where project-based work takes over.

At this stage, students move beyond basic exercises and begin working with dedicated Tinusaur project kits to solve practical, real-world problems through programming, electronics, and STEM-based thinking.

Level-3 can include individual and team projects such as robotic cars, parking systems, alarm systems, traffic light systems, solar stations, automated plant watering systems, weather monitors, smart home projects, game consoles, and many more. The goal is for students to apply what they have already learned and gradually move from guided learning toward independent problem-solving and creative engineering work.
